Lagos authorities blamed the company constructing the building, Lekki Worldwide Estate Limited, for the tragedy, citing disregard for supervisory laws as the cause of the collapse.
Four more bodies were recovered on Wednesday night at the site of the collapsed building in Lagos, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
NEMA Public Relations Officer Ibrahim Farinloye announced that the agency has ceased rescue operations and that the federal government is now focusing on investigating the causes of the building collapse.
“The operation to rescue those trapped in the collapsed structure belonging to Lekki Gardens started at about 4 a.m. on March 8 and ended by 7:20 p.m. on March 9. Those rescued alive are receiving treatment in various hospitals in Lagos metropolis,” Mr. Farinloye stated.
The five-story unfinished Lekki building collapsed on Tuesday morning.

According to Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy Steve Ayorinde, the company exceeded the number of floors approved by the Lagos State Building Control Agency.
Yesterday, police in Lagos arrested the contractor responsible for the building, Odofin Taiwo.
